that creates our consciousness, our self-image, our perceptions, emotions and actions. Some days before this meeting, you will receive a package of potting clay form Amazon. You will easily

Friday, 26th July 2019: Leading with the brain in mind: Major results, future perspectives and fallacies of the neuroleadership approach. David Rock's
SCARF model and Klaus Grawes model of intrapersonal consistency as prototypical examples of paradigms based on leadership behaviour (and the training of 'skills') as opposed to mindset and
maturity (and the development of personality). We will discuss empirical evidence for the superiority of developing personality over purely behavioural leaderhip training,
concerning the promotion of performance and corporate health. We will install scientific updates to the (mostly implicit) theories underlying current leadership practice, which still greatly
relies on the outdated paradigms of Taylorism (industrial age best practice), on behaviourist psychology and on an irrational belief in the homo oeconomicus.
Wednesday, 31st July 2019: Brain-aware staff training and people development:What are the implications of neuroscience for people
development beyond the well-known recipes for 'brain-friendly' learning? How can we adapt our traditional human resource training to the challenges of disruptive changes, ever advancing
digitalisation and the emergence of an artificial intelligence that will irrevocably replace routine jobs as well as job routines even in highly sophisticated professions? How does the brain
cope with the increasing pressure to be 'creative', 'self-organized', 'resilient' and to reinvent oneself and the scope of our professional activities with every new innovation cycle? We will
infuse new, neuroscientific life into the old, but invaluable 'types of learning' proposed by Gregory Bateson and discuss pathways towards a new practice of human resource development that
could have the required neuroplastic impact to induce the massive corticalisation needed for coping with the challenges ahead. A special focus will be on meditation practice and neurofeedback
as examples for what Bateson would have called 'Leraning IV', i.e. overcoming the biological limitations of learning.
Monday, 5th August 2019: The art and neuroscience of inspiring and leading change: Considering the unprecedented degree of
plasticity that our human brain prides itself to be equipped with, it is astounding to realise how much resistence the very same organ is capable of offering to the merest hint of change. We
will explore this paradox with reference to the neural mechanims involved in the homeostatic regulation of plasticity and stability in the brain. Based on this evidence, we will question the
paradigm of 'change management' (as a goal-directed, cybernetically plannable, and, ideally, linear path from an undesirable status quo to a more desirable future). We will consider
change as a natural process of adaptation and assimilation which is (equally naturally) reinforced by our brain's rewards system (as it is the case in our own early development, which is
characterized by extreme motivation in the face of frequent frustration). This shifts the focus from the perspective of 'engineering' change to the perspective of getting the developmental
and societal liabilities out of the way that pose an obstacle to our innate willingness and competence to change ourselves and our environment.

My first life was devoted to the Humanities. In 1999, after a decade of studies and parties, I earned the degree of a Master of Arts (M.A.) in German and English Language and Literature, with
a focus on cognitive linguistics, neurolinguistics, and communication psychology.
While spending another decade in project management and staff traininig in the Automotive and IT industries, I decided to use my ever inquisitive brain circuits for something (even) more
exciting. I spent much of my spare time in seminars on training, coaching, psychotherapy and the neurosciences. This way,I happened to collect quite a few fancy and colorful certificats, among
others as a trainers' trainer, master coach, hypnotherapist and practitioner of psychotherapy. I am happy to possess all of them in PDF format, because I always struggle to find the original
documents due to my (otherwise reasonably compensated) 'attention deficits'. Apart from that, I am now looking back on 18 years of hands-on experience in giving courses, seminars, workshops,
coaching people and consulting companies.
At the wake of my second life as a self-employed trainer and consultant specializing in translational science, I became a lecturer of applied cognitive neuroscience in the Organisational
Psychology department of a business school near Munich. I love my students and enjoy to supervise their Bachelor and Master theses, which often bristle with inspiring new ideas for translating
science into a better real world practice.
One day, I bumped into a genetics professor via Facebook. A few years later, I found myself writing a doctoral thesis on the associations between genetic variations of the oxytocin (the
bonding and affiliation hormoen) receptor gene and empathy, which finally earned me a doctorate in medical sciences. Now, I have got another piece of paper (somewhere) that I just shouldn't
For the next few years, I will spend half of my time at the University Hospital in Essen, Germany, establishing a research unit that tries to explore the molecular foundations of emotional
competencies like empathy, self-efficiacy, internal locus of control etc. For the rest of my time, I will strive to be in as close contact with the real world outside the ivory tower as possible,
always testing out the ways and the extent to which science can be put to practical use in people development, organisational development, leadership and coaching.
Thanks to modern speech recognition software (I am more fluent with my mouth than I am with my fingers), I have written two books ( "Change Happens" on 'neuroscience and change' and
"Neurodidaktik für Trainer" on 'neuroscience and training' and some 40 specialis articles on translating neuroscience into people development. Although I had sworn to myself to stop writing, the
next book on 'neuroleaderhsip' will (hopefully) be published in August 2019.
I love the stage and enjoy delivering keynotes, giving interviews and taking part in panel discussions.
I have three purposes in life: my wonderful life partner and my two sweet little daughters.
